I don't know why, but I thin Portuguese is very difficult to understand, I find Spanish easier, but I admit I have been looking at some evening schools courses in Portuguese - unfortunately my working hours are a problem with evening shift every other week.
I am really looking forward to this trip. My father was ill last year and thought he would never travel outside Denmark again, but he is doing better know and is still gaining his strength so it will be great to visit Porto again - just the boys and some good port wine

Don't worry about not understanding Portuguese even the Spaniards don't understand it and they are right next dor eheh
But Portuguese is a difficult language mostly because of nasal sounds.
You can try duolingo to learn portuguese it uses a microphone to hear if you are pronoucing the words correctly.
