Please excuse the English, but I am in Lisbon for 6 weeks and have yet to find a place with a wide assortment of Semogue brushes.

Could anybody please lead me on to the right place.

Obrigato.

maybe the best place in Lisbon for Smeogue brushes is:

Cutelaria Polycarpo, in the historical zone of Libon (downtown - Baixa)
Adress: Rua de São Nicolau 19-31
http://www.polycarpo.com/

Also in:
Pote de Prata, a small shop that sells decoration items, and also classic shaving items (a little far away from the center):
Address: Rua Marquesa de Alorna, nº 27A
I wish I could be half as sure of anything as some people are of everything...

Obrigato.  I was in Alvalade, yesterday and will be back today!

Curious on your own taste in brushes.

Also, all of the brushes seem to have numbers but not names.  But

http://loja.avidaportuguesa.com/en/pesquisa/pesquisa.php?chave=Semogue&Submit.x=-1011&Submit.y=-494

...has only names?

I am thinking of buying a badger brush, but am I overlooking a bounty of brushes with the boar brush-head?

Again, thank you.

Well, I own the 1305, 1438, SOC Boar, Semogue 2010 (Badger) and the Semogue BC LE Boar.

BTW, the 1305 and 1438 are for trade.

IMO, Oversaturn is the perfect user to help you.

In that shop, the choice is somewhat limited.
They have a Semogue 730 (the badger one), and the other two are low-end brushes, with plastic rings.
Still, the shop is nice to visit, has many curious and traditional portuguese items.
I wish I could be half as sure of anything as some people are of everything...

I went to the shop in Alvalade and bought the 2010 badger.   I suspect it is not the LE Silvertip, though, or are all of the 2010s that?  The price was 23.90E.

Christmas had them at a limited supply and I think all of the other ones left were synthetic.

My other latest brush is a high-end Omega badger silvertip so I can compare.

There is some talk on a couple of sites between wood and acrylic.   I like the natural feel/look/ of wood  but I have a problem.  They had no stands left and I am in Lisbon for another month.  How best to dry the brush?  I thought to tie a chord to it and hang it.  Any other ideas.

Obrigato.   Feliz Ano Novo.

In most drugstores is possible to buy an acrylic dripstand.
They have those at Oriental, S. Pereira Leão, S. Domingos, Polycarpo and many others, and generally for less than €2.

The Semogue 2010 is a pure badger brush. It's right, it is not silvertip.
The others at the shop were boar brushes, Semogue doesn't produce synthetic brushes.

To dry the brush, you can well leave the brush with the knot upwards, after give it a good shake, no problem with that, it will dry properly.

Thank you for where I can buy the acrylic stand.

That's what I was wondering about, the synthetic.  But the owner insisted that it was synthetic.

So is the 2010 a good brush?   I now have this cognitive dissonance that I should have tried out a boar brush?   What's your feeling on the relative merits?  And if a boar, which boar to try out first?

Many thanks.

It's as oversaturn says, Semogue doesn't produces synth brushes, so the store owner must be mistaken.
If you're interested in a boar brush, good recomendations are the 1305 and the 1800. The 830 has the same knot as the 1305 but has 10% more hair and an acrylic handle if that's your preference. If you like bigger brushes, the 2000 is a very good one, but it opens a lot after the break-in period, so it's more suitable for bowl lathering (although I use it myself for face lathering ;D can't beat that soft wall of piggy hair :D)

Don't know if you already saw this one but here it is:

As FatSlim says, the 1800 is a good choice, specially if you like wooden handles and want a versatile brush. 1305 and 830 are versatile brushes as well.
If you are a die-hard facelatherer, you may then want to pick a shorted-loft Semogue, like the 620 or 1438. :)

The 2010 is a quality brush. Whether you gonna like it or not depends on your personal preferences. Some people don't like pure badger brushes and find them prickly -  although the pure badger hair from Semogue is not as prickly as some pure badgers from other brands. I kind of like it - it works well, it produces lather very quickly and doesn't hog the lather. It also dries out quickly. :)
I wish I could be half as sure of anything as some people are of everything...

Really nice of you guys.

I will do the rounds and let you know.

Curious why the 2010 is not on that chart?  Hmmmm....

And I'm also curious why you guys have so many brushes?   I have a top quality Omega badger but I am away from home for several months and thought to travel light.   So I want to get another brush because of the great creams here.   Do you guys lather up with different brushes for different soaps or creams?   Is it a morning ritual?  Choosing the brush and making yourself happy?

Obrigato once again.

Sheldon
